Let it be your Choice : An informed one.
Those of you who want to take up medicine and continue to practice in India, please make an informed choice. It's no longer about saving other lives but about saving yours.
You would work so hard to come to a diagnosis to see a patient just walk away as you ordered a few tests and then have the audacity to blame you after not seeking your treatment.
You would have to deal with a bunch of people trying to justify how they can't have a disease when they do.
You will need to be able to face an angry mob with an Insane level of strength. By insane am talking Rajnikanth, Goku super saiyan 3, Mewtwo, Voldemort and Arya Stark.
You will need to read rubbish like hernia removing powders and cerebral palsy curing lotions and see people spend 20-40 k on that and not 600 bucks for a necessary test.
You would then have to deal with an attitude: that the doctor has to respond to you at all times. No matter what. Personal and family time doesn't matter. That's only for others.
You will have to smile and avoid conflict with the educated Indian who believes in a a democracy which hates protests and a judiciary which fails many and yet not accept the possibility of science having it's flaws. Because when things go wrong it is only the doctor to blame just like when someone gets raped the girl is to be blamed. I am sorry for referring to the common asshole as an educated Indian. In the words of George Orwell in his book Animal Farm
"“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which"
You will also have to study. And study continuously.
If you are ready for this, then the beauty and wonder of saving a life, of being there for a sick child, a crying mother or a dejected old man will keep you at peace.
The process of trying to find the cheaper drug for the one who can't afford it will make you feel better.
And the whole ordeal of sacrificing family time will in turn return as showers of blessings.
It all will, if you survive.
Else, go do something else.
Period.
