Why do Doctors get beaten up?

Stupid question right.

I mean, Doctors deserve it. 

Don't they?

Why else would you have incidents of doctors being beaten at their places of work by the families of the patients they treat? - they probably deserve it right?

Why else would our rational society filled with reason, compassion and logical reasoning unnecessarily beat up a Doctor?-they must deserve it right?

I mean look at it this way- why else would our society which includes all of us who collectively contribute to making our entire system of road traffic rules a mere joke, think of something as unruly as violence in a hospital,  unless it was really justified? 

- they definitely deserve it, right?

But still for the sake of an argument, let's ask ourselves that question - let's rephrase it slightly.

What makes someone angry enough to physically assault a Doctor?

Based on what I have observed, discussed, read and argued with people over, there are a few assumptions that people possess, when they visit a hospital. It is often that when these beliefs are unmet, the doctor is considered to be at fault- no logical path is taken up to reach that conclusion. 

It's simple LHS=RHS

1. A lot of people think they would know when a hospital admission is required because they think they know themselves better than someone trained to assess them. So if the Doctor advises admission when they feel it's not right - slap!

2. Most people know when they need to be in the ICU. Legend has it that it's a skill handed down from Gods of Egypt to their bastard children. So when the doctor says a patient needs ICU admission, but the family of the patient believes otherwise - the Doctor is wrong 

3. The need for a CT scan or MRI is directly proportional to what the patient's neighbour or  their friend with no expertise to assess the need has told them. If the Doctor, God forbid, happens to have a different opinion- THAT IS really really bad. 

4. The correct timing at which a  surgery has to be performed is supposed to come in a dream to the patient needing surgery a few days prior to the disease.  So that when they walk into a hospital - they already know. 

If the doctor jumps the gun, does not wait for the dream, and advises surgery - a stabbing is necessary 

5. Every medicine written by a Doctor is so that they can get rich. 

6. Every test advised by a Doctor is so that they can get richer

7. Every good thing that happens in a Doctor's life is because they have cheated everyone around them and hence it's right to have vengeance.

This is what the average patient believes in.

And this is why doctor's get beaten up.

When your own preconceived notions are thrown out of the window, it somehow feels right to all of you to physically assault your Doctor.

Because, well what can we do right?

Protest - for how long you may ask?

Close down services- for how long you may ask?

I have a question for you- for how long do you think we will take this crap from you?
